Foot Type Test — Greek, Egyptian, Roman or Celtic?

Egyptian feet have the longest big toe with each following toe stepping down in a smooth diagonal — the most common pattern worldwide. Greek feet, sometimes called Flame or Fire feet, have a second toe longer than the big toe. Roman feet have the first three toes at nearly equal length, giving a squarer front edge. Celtic feet mix the two: a long big toe with an even longer second toe and an uneven descent after it. Germanic feet have a prominent big toe with the remaining four at roughly the same length.

These labels are descriptive folk taxonomy, not medical classification, and they say nothing about ancestry despite the names. What they are genuinely useful for is shoe fit.

A longer second toe means pointed toe boxes will press on it first, which is why Greek and Celtic feet are far more prone to blisters at the second toe and to Morton's-type pressure pain in tapered shoes. Roman feet with a square front edge need a wide, square toe box and suffer in almond shapes. Egyptian feet get along with the widest range of shoes, which is convenient given how common the pattern is.
